Divertor Similarity Database Parameters
A set of experimentally-determined dimensionless parameters is proposed for characterizing the regime of divertor operation. The objective is to be able to compare as unambiguously as possible the operation of different divertors and to understand what physical similarities and differences they represent. Examples from Alcator C-Mod are given.
متن کاملOperating Windows of Pebble Divertor
A marked feature of the pebble divertor is an effect by use of functional multi-layer coated pebble, which consists of a surface plasma facing layer, an intermediate tritium permeation barrier layer, and a kernel for heat removal. The dimensions, structure and the irradiation conditions of pebbles are the important issues for the development of the pebble divertor. From the view point of resist...
متن کاملDivertor interferometer diagnostic for ITER
In the harsh environment of the divertor region in ITER, plasmas spanning a huge density range from 1019 to 1022 m−3 are anticipated making measurement of the electron density particularly challenging. For any reasonable wavelength choice, the total phase measured by a conventional two-color interferometer system is always 2 and therefore subject to fringe counting errors. This problem can be r...
متن کاملICRF and Enhanced Confinement Modes in Alcator C-Mod
Introduction Understanding divertor detachment is essential to predicting the operation of future diverted tokamaks. The current plan for ITER operation assumes that the plasma is detached from the divertor, that f e be near the Greenwald limit [1] and that the main plasma is not diluted by impurities. However, we do not know whether these conditions can be achieved simultaneously. In this set ...
